How big are the drops, really?
Most Notorious is a film for Red Bull, made to build up to Red Bull Rampage 2021. Every October the best freeride mountain bikers in the world ride down cliffs in the Utah desert, and on a phone, in all that empty rock, it’s hard to tell how big any of it is. So we took Rampage’s numbers into places everybody can read, a rooftop, an airfield and a museum, with the measurements drawn straight onto the picture. I co-directed it with Phil Hessler.
Most Notorious
Red Bull Rampage, brought to scale
We built it around a host people would want to follow. Nicholi Rogatkin has ridden Rampage himself, and he has the charisma and humor to hold a scripted film together. Over six days in September 2021 we walked him through three structures with Jaxson Riddle riding: hanging off the Petzl building to show how a 65° chute can feel, a 75-foot gap over parked trucks at Wendover Airport, and a 50-foot drop off the roof of the Natural History Museum of Utah.
On the last one Jaxson came in too fast and landed almost flat. He walked away with nothing broken but his bike. A bystander’s clip of the crash went viral across the bike press before the film was out, and three days before Rampage, Red Bull released our 6:33 film as Jumping Bikes Off A 4 Story Building, giving it the context. It has passed 830,000 views on YouTube.
