Where do you go after winning an Oscar?

In November 2019 Panerai announced Jimmy Chin as its newest ambassador with this short film. It came the same year Free Solo won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature, when Jimmy’s life had turned into red carpets and big cities. The film takes him home to Jackson Hole and the Tetons, to his family, and back up a wall. I wrote the treatment and was story producer.

The idea was time: Jimmy’s past, present and future, told through one climb close to home. It opens with him driving back into Jackson with the Tetons ahead, talking about how rare those days have become. His childhood home movies and the Oscars fill in how he got here.

Then he climbs, with the watch on his wrist as a working instrument rather than a product shot. Jimmy wanted a crew he could trust in that terrain, because filming there carries real risk. The film runs about four minutes.
